Who is personal trainer Rogan Reid?

Early in his athletic career, Rogan had the opportunity to coach younger athletes and discovered that he has both the passion and the talent to be a personal trainer. Rogan has now been coaching and training others in Calgary for more than 10 years. As an elite athlete & ACE certified personal trainer, he knows how to get the best out of his clients.

Rogan started training to be a Nordic Combined Athlete at age 10, out of Canada Olympic Park in Calgary. He has competed in Canada, the US and across Europe, including 2 World Junior Championships and multiple Canadian & US championships. Highlights include multiple junior Canadian Championship Nordic Combined victories as well as first place finishes in both the U-18 North American Nordic Combined and Ski Jumping events.

After retiring from competitive Nordic Combined and Ski Jumping, Rogan has turned his athletic passions to Olympic Weighlifting and intends to continue competing at an elite level.  

He is passionate about strength training & overall fitness. He takes joy in teaching his clients how to move properly – to avoid injury – while leading them to achieve their fitness goals.

Strength Training

Strength training is the core of our personal training programs. Strength training with a personal trainer will increase muscle mass. Muscle mass naturally decreases with age, but strength training can help reverse the trend.

Strength training increases bone density and reduces the risk of fractures. It also helps joints stay flexible and can reduce the symptoms of arthritis.

Strength training can also help maintain a healthy weight. As you gain muscle mass, your body begins to burn calories more easily, making it easier to control your weight.

Your personal training program will include a significant focus on strength training to achieve those benefits.

Mobility

Mobility training is another core element of our personal training program. Mobility benefits your workout in ways that a quick warm-up cannot.

During mobility training, blood is being moved to the surrounding tissues. An example of this would be to perform hip circles to warm up the hips. The blood is transported to the hip flexors, glutes and external rotators, which are the muscles that move the leg. This provides the important benefit of reducing risk of injury by removing restrictions to moving joints.

Mobility training benefits your form. When muscles and joints are more flexible, we get an increased range of motion. This allows us to perform exercises with better technique. For example, if we have tight leg muscles, then we will struggle to lower in a squat or perform a deadlift with correct posture.

Conditioning is the final aspect of the program that your personal trainer will give you, and it includes:

Heart conditioning. To have more energy, there should be plenty of oxygen in your bloodstream. Oxygen is transported by the heart for each beat it creates. Like any muscle, the heart will be stronger as it works harder, pumping more oxygen to the bloodstream. As your heart muscle becomes stronger, it needs less work to transport blood through your body.

Lung conditioning. Your lungs provide the oxygen to your bloodstream and must also be conditioned to become more efficient. This will give you enough energy to last through your exercise. Conditioning exercises improve the strength and total health of your lungs.

In order to maximize the benefit of training with grtr fitness, we operate out of Evolve Strength Sunridge at #125 – 2985 23 Ave NE, Calgary, Alberta.

Evolve is a full service gym that includes personal training as well as other sports medical services.

Evolve Strength Sunridge has the facilities and equipment of a large gym with the positive and local vibe.

We have all the strength gear that anyone could want along with cardio gear and a turf sprinting area. There’s even a tire / sledge combo if you need to take out your frustrations in a safe manner !

In addition to the personal trainer services, Evolve Strength Sunridge also has a variety of sports medicine practitioners to get you on the road to recovery.
